Boxing is in the name for a reason

If you are looking for a Wisbech boxing club, this is a boxing gym inside a 24 hour facility, with two full competition rings, heavy bags and coaches who have worked professional corners.

BoxCross has two rings, and both get used. Professional boxers have run full camps in this building before nationally televised fights. Coaches here have worked corners. That is unusual for a mixed gym in a market town and it is the single thing that most separates this place from anywhere else nearby.

None of which means you need to be a fighter. The overwhelming majority of people in the boxing classes have never competed and never will. They come because hitting things is the most enjoyable conditioning work there is, and because learning an actual skill beats counting reps.

Boxing Basics 101 runs Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm for adult beginners, Adult BoxCross on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm for conditioning, and Women’s Boxing Basics on Wednesdays at 6pm. You can also book one-to-one pad sessions through the app with coaches who do this professionally.

How it works

Where you start

Boxing classes

Boxing Basics 101 on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm covers stance, footwork, combinations and pad work, coached by Daniel Higgs and Jordan Tilsey. Adult BoxCross on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm is the conditioning side. Beginners are normal and nobody is going to put you in with a fighter on week one.

One-to-one pad work

30-minute pads or 60-minute boxing sessions, bookable through the BoxCross app. This is where technique moves fastest, because someone is watching every rep and correcting it.

Sparring

Available when your coach thinks you are ready and never before. Controlled, supervised, and entirely optional. Plenty of members train for years without sparring once.

Kids, youth and girls’ boxing

Six days a week. Ages 5 to 11 on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5pm, ages 12 to 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5pm, all ages under 16 on Fridays at 5pm, and girls’ boxing fitness with Stevi Levy on Saturday mornings. Games, technique, fitness and confidence, taught by fighters. More on youth classes.

Fight camp

If you compete, the facility is here: ring, bags, strength and conditioning floor, sled track, nutrition support and coaching. Talk to us.

What you need to start

Comfortable clothes, trainers and a water bottle. That is the whole list. Gloves and wraps can be sorted at the gym and you do not need your own kit to try a class.

If you decide you like it, a pair of 14oz gloves and some wraps will cover you for a long time. The coaches will point you at what is worth buying and what is not.

Questions

Common questions

Is there a boxing club in Wisbech?

BoxCross UK on Regal Road is a full boxing gym inside a 24-hour facility: two competition rings, heavy bags, pad work and coaches who have prepared professional fighters. Adult classes run Monday to Thursday evenings and kids’ and youth boxing runs six days a week.

Do I need boxing experience?

No. Most people in the classes have never boxed. Sessions are coached and scaled, and beginners are the normal case rather than the exception.

Will I have to spar?

Never unless you want to. Sparring only happens when a coach judges you ready and you have asked for it. Many members train for years and never spar.

How old do children need to be?

Kids’ boxing starts at 5. Ages 5 to 11 train Mondays and Wednesdays at 5pm, ages 12 to 16 Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5pm, everyone under 16 together on Fridays at 5pm, and the girls’ Saturday sessions split at 10am for ages 5 to 10 and 11am for 11 to 16.

Can I book one-to-one boxing sessions?

Yes, 30-minute pads or 60-minute boxing sessions, booked through the BoxCross app with the coach of your choice.

I searched for boxing clubs near me. Where are you and what is the difference?

Regal Road, Wisbech, PE13 2RQ, with free parking on site. Most boxing clubs near me searches around Fenland turn up small hall sessions running two evenings a week. This is two full competition rings inside a 24-hour gym, so your membership covers the boxing, the weights room and the classes rather than just the one night.
