Inside the gym
The functional training
area in Wisbech
A functional training area in Wisbech built for the work most gyms leave out: a numbered sled track, a wall ball wall, a rig, Skillmill, SkiErgs, RowErgs, kettlebells, wall balls and air bikes, all in one room under the Ali murals.
The room the classes are built around
This is where most of the coached classes run, and it is open to every member the rest of the time. The red track is marked in metres so sled work, lunges and carries can be programmed properly rather than guessed.
The wall ball wall has the targets painted on, the rig takes pull-ups, rings and bands, and the ergs and Skillmill cover the conditioning. Hyrox-style sessions run here week in, week out.
It sits between the main floor and the leg room, so a session can move from a rack to the track without leaving the building.
What is in the room
Kit, by the wall it lives on
The sled track
Red, eight lanes deep, numbered to the finish line. Loaded sleds, prowlers and the space to push them. The single most used piece of floor in the building.
Wall balls and the target wall
Wall balls racked beside a painted target wall, so a whole class can work at once.
Ergs and the Skillmill
Two SkiErgs, Concept2 RowErgs, air bikes and a Technogym Skillmill curved treadmill for sprint work that does not need a motor.
Kettlebells and dumbbells
Competition kettlebells, a rack of coloured Jordan dumbbells for circuits, battle ropes, bosu balls and plyo boxes.
The rig
Pull-up bars, rings, bands and a power rack at the end of the track for the strength parts of a functional session.
Classes in here
Ultimate Athlete, Early Burn Bootcamp, Sunday Bootcamp, Adult BoxCross, Women’s Only Fit and Functional and BoxCross Step all run in this room, from 6am on Mondays to 7pm on Thursdays. See the timetable.

Questions
Common questions
Can I use the functional area outside of classes?
Yes. It is open to every member whenever the gym is open. Classes have priority on the track while they are running; the timetable in the app shows when.
Do you run Hyrox-style training?
Yes. Sled, SkiErg, RowErg, wall balls, lunges and carries are all here, and several coaches run Hyrox-style sessions. Ask Daniel or at reception.
How long is the sled track?
Numbered lanes to a marked finish line. Long enough to programme sled pushes and pulls properly rather than turning every five metres.
